Conjuring Backbone - It's Not All Black and White

 This series began with observations and quick studies of a discarded backbone from a deer carcass and the contorted, knobby apple trees outside my studio window.  I became fascinated with the intricacies and gestural play of the bones and the expressive twisting fruit trees. Combining both I used pastels, chalk and acrylics on masonite  to create bold statements of complex simplicity.
